Faculty and Staff

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research is one of thirteen Departments/units at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Uppsala University. The Department was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Peace and conflict research is multidisciplinary and the Department does not have any subdivisions or subdisciplines. The Dag Hammarskjöld chair of peace and conflict research – the first of its kind in Sweden – was created in 1985 and a second professorial chair was appointed in 2003. The research staff of the Department further includes some 25–30 professors, assistant and associate professors, and post docs; and some 15–20 PhD candidates. With research assistants and administrative, project, and technical staff, approximately 70 persons are employed by the Department. The Department offers educational programs at the bachelor, master and doctoral level, as well as commissioned training and dialogue programmes.
