Timeline

Structure of the program

Progression

The studies are structured to foster a constructive learning context and group coherence, while at the same time allow for individual choice. The first year consists of all students taking the mandatory courses in Peace and Conflict Studies A (fall semester) and Development Studies A (spring semester). Students thus acquire basic skills and knowledge in both the fields. In this way, the first year sets the foundation for deepened studies in either Peace and Conflict Studies or Development Studies.

Students choosing Peace and Conflict Studies as their main field follows an elective course during the third semester, followed by Peace and Conflict Studies B and C the following two semesters respectively. Students choosing Development Studies as their main field follow Development Studies B during the third semester and elective course as well as Development Studies C the two following semesters respectively. During the sixth semester, students – regardless of their choice of main field – can follow the semester-long internship course or follow yet another elective course.

Within the program students have the opportunity for international studies mainly during the elective semesters through the International Office at Uppsala University.

The program thus consists of a choice of these courses

  • Peace and Conflict Studies A, B, C (30+30+30=90 Credits)
  • Development Studies A, B, C (30+30+30=90 Credits)
  • Elective courses, 30 Credits
  • Internship, 30 Credits or further elective courses, 30 Credits
