Major data releases from UCDP

UCDP has released six new versions of its annually updated datasets: UCDP/PRIO Armed Conflict Dataset v.20.1, UCDP Dyadic Dataset v.20.1, UCDP Battle-related Deaths Dataset v.20.1, UCDP Georeferenced Events Dataset v.20.1 (UCDP GED 20.1), UCDP Non-State Conflict Dataset v.20.1 and UCDP One-sided Violence Dataset v.20.1.
For the first time, Syria is part of the UCDP GED v.20.1. The dataset includes conflict events for the time period 1989-2019.
Furthermore, the new UCDP Candidate Events Dataset (UCDP Candidate) is based on UCDP Georeferenced Event Dataset (UCDP GED), but published at a monthly release cycle. It makes available monthly releases of candidate events data with not more than a month’s lag for all of Africa and Middle East. The latest version covers April 2020.
In their article “Organized violence, 1989-2019” in the July issue of Journal of Peace Research, Therese Pettersson and Magnus Öberg present updated data on all three categories of organized violence (state-based conflict, non-state conflict and one-sided violence) as well as exploring violence involving transnational jihadist groups.
